The Manchester United duo led by example as their side dug deep to secure a vital 2-1 win at Old Trafford on New Year’s Day.
Victory for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side lifts them level on points with early Premier League leaders Liverpool ahead of their own match with Southampton on Monday night.
Pogba dominated the midfield battle against Villa and played a pivotal role in the victory by winning the penalty from which Bruno Fernandes struck the winning goal, while Bailly produced a crucial block late on to deny Keinan Davis a possible equaliser.
At full-time Bailly was mobbed by his United teammates for the crucial injury-time intervention while Wan-Bissaka praised the pair for their contribution to the win.
“(Pogba’s) performance was great and overall the team performance was as well,” Wan-Bissaka told MUTV. “We got the result.
Vote for United’s man of the match vs Villa
“We’re happy for Eric. Big moment that. That could’ve gone another way so we’re happy for him.”
United are second in the league – behind Liverpool on goal difference – after a strong festive period but Wan-Bissaka isn’t getting carried away by the talk of a possible title challenge.
He added: “Every game that we win is important for us. It’s a step closer. It’s a good position to be in but we should just take every game step by step and see where it leads.”
