What Fernandes has done for Man United that Gary Neville has never seen before

2 min read

Gary Neville has never seen a player ‘transform’ a club like Bruno Fernandes has at Manchester United.

Fernandes’ form since joining United in January has helped change United’s fortunes and they are unbeaten since before his arrival. United could finish the season as high as third in the Premier League and are in the FA Cup semi-finals and have as good as qualified for the Europa League last eight.

And that transformation, set in motion by Fernandes, is something Neville claims he has not seen before.

“I was worried for Ole (Gunnar Solskjaer),” he told the Webby and O’Neill podcast. “I thought he needed to spend money.

“To be fair, I didn’t think one signing would have the impact it has had and one youth player (Mason Greenwood).

“The signing of Bruno Fernandes has just transformed the dressing room and transformed the club. I’ve never known one signing to have such an impact.”

He added: “You talk about Eric Cantona and Eric Cantona came into a team that was nearly a title team the year before and made it into a title-winning team.

“This is nowhere near a title team and all of a sudden you’re starting to think about this team that might be something that will challenge next year.

“He’s had an incredible influence not just himself but on the team and the fans.

“Ole, I imagine, wouldn’t have thought it but glued everything together.

“I’m delighted for him. He loves the club and we need people at the moment who love the club.”
