We simulated Manchester United vs Istanbul Basaksehir to get a score prediction

3 min read

Manchester United will be looking to exact revenge on Istanbul Baseksehir at Old Trafford in the Champions League tonight (Tuesday) in this Group H clash.

United will again be without Luke Shaw and Jesse Lingard through injury, with additional injury concerns over the fitness of Paul Pogba and Eric Bailly ahead of the game. Phil Jones, Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo are unregistered in this competition and are unavailable.

Edinson Cavani could make his full debut for United against Basaksehir, with Donny van de Beek, Dean Henderson, Scott McTominay, Mason Greenwood, Alex Telles and Axel Tuanzebe all likely to start tonight (Tuesday).

For the away side, former United full-back Rafael is expected to start on his return to Old Trafford, with former Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel, former Chelsea striker Demba Ba and former Spurs winger Nacer Chadli all likely to be involved.

So, what lineup will Ole Gunnar Solskjaer go with on Tuesday? And, what will the final score be?

Ahead of the game, we used FIFA 21 to get a score prediction. This is what the game predicts.

United vs Istanbul Basaksehir vs score predicted using FIFA 21

To set up this simulation, we used kick-off mode within FIFA 21 but didn’t select a team to control; we then selected the teams and watched the match play out by itself, to give us a prediction.

The AI difficulty was set to legendary, with the line-up updated with the latest transfers, injuries and suspensions.

We had United could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Henderson; Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Tuanzebe, Telles; McTominay, Van de Beek, Fernandes; Rashford, Greenwood, Cavani.

We predict that Istanbul Basaksehir could set up in a 4-1-4-1 formation, with the line-up as follows: Gunok; Rafael, Skrtel, Epureanu, Bolingoli-Mbombo; Ozcan; Visca, Kahveci, Aleksic, Turuc; Ba.

In our FIFA 21 simulation Instanbul Basaksehir were the team who started better, not sitting back as you would expect and in the sixth minute, they took a deserved early lead.

After a good period of possession, Basaksehir worked the ball to midfielder Aleksic on the edge of the box, who produced a powerful shot into the far corner to make it 0-1 to the away side.

The away side continued to dominate the ball and it was the same story in the second-half, with the Turkish outfit not looking particularly dangerous, but comfortable in possession.

But totally against the run of play, Marcus Rashford grabbed an equaliser in the 56th minute, with Donny van de Beek setting Mason Greenwood away on the right, who then fed Rashford at the back post to level the score.

That goal caused Basaksehir to change their approach slightly, and United now had the momentum.

In the 70th minute, United took the lead and Van de Beek was involved once again. The Dutchman played the ball into the feet of Cavani inside the area, who cut inside and unleashed a curling effort into the far post. A great finish.

There was even time for Greenwood to get in on the act himself, with Rashford returning the favour by assisting the youngster, who was left with an easy finish at the far post.

Predicted FIFA 21 score: United 3-1 Istanbul Basaksehir

Here are the full time stats.

Despite enjoying the majority of possession, Basaksehir scored with their only shot on target in the game and didn’t really create anything, with the away side keeping the ball as a defensive tactic, rather than an offensive one.

In the end, an improved second-half performance from United was enough to get the three points here, with goals from Rashford, Cavani and Greenwood sealing a Group H win in our simulated game.
