We simulated Crystal Palace vs Manchester United ahead of Premier League clash

3 min read

Just days after their 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge, Manchester United return to Premier League action on Wednesday, as they take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

United will be without Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Phil Jones in midweek, with striker Edinson Cavani also doubtful due to injury, but Scott McTominay is expected to start once again after returning from injury against Chelsea.

The Reds are undefeated in their last 20 Premier League away matches following their draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday and will be hoping to extend that run, particularly with Palace set to be without Wilfried Zaha, Mamadou Sakho, James Tomkins, James McArthur, Nathan Ferguson, Wayne Hennessey, Nathaniel Clyne and Tyrick Mitchell.

So, what line-up will Solskjaer go with against the Eagles? And, what will the final score be?

Ahead of the game, we used FIFA 21 to get a score prediction.

Crystal Palace vs Man United score predicted using FIFA 21

To set up this simulation, we used kick-off mode within FIFA 21 but didn’t select a team to control; we then selected the teams and watched the match play out by itself, to give us a prediction.

The AI difficulty was set to world class, with the line-up updated with the latest transfers, injuries and suspensions.

We predict that Crystal Palace could set up in a 4-4-2 formation, with their line-up as follows: Guaita; Ward, Kouyate, Cahill, Van Aanholt; Townsend, Milivojevic, Riedewald, Eze; Benteke, Mateta.

Palace predicted lineup

We predict that United could set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with their line-up as follows: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Fred, McTominay; Greenwood, Fernandes, Rashford; Martial.

Crystal Palace were poor in our FIFA 21 simulated game, but United weren’t that much better!

The first-half was bereft of any real quality, with few chances for either side, as United had most of the ball but there was no urgency in their play.

Unfortunately, the second-half wasn’t much better, but it was United who found a way to win thanks to a rare showcase of genuine quality.

With just seven minutes of the game remaining, Rashford skipped past Joel Ward and squared for Bruno Fernandes, who produced a wonderful first time finish with his left foot, which bent into the far corner and past Vicente Guaita.

Bruno Fernandes stepped up yet again for United in our simulated game

This simulated game certainly wasn’t pretty, but the late goal from Fernandes was enough for United to grab the three points.
