Just days after their dramatic victory against Brighton in the Premier League, Manchester United travel the Amex again on Wednesday night, with the two sides meeting in the Carabao Cup Round of 16.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is likely to rotate his squad for the rematch against the Seagulls, with Dean Henderson, Brandon Williams, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Odion Ighalo all likely to be involved from the start.
United don’t have any additional injury concerns ahead of the game, with Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe set to miss out once again. First team regular Harry Maguire could also agai from the start on Wednesday night (tonight).
So, what will the final score be? And what team will Solskjaer go with against the Seagulls on Wednesday? We used FIFA 20 to simulate the outcome of the game.
Brighton vs United score predicted
To set up this simulation, we used kick-off mode within FIFA 20 but didn’t select a team to control; we then selected the teams and watched the match play out by itself, to give us a prediction.
The AI difficulty was set to legendary, with the line-up updated with the latest transfers, injuries and suspensions. But as this is FIFA 20, the kits are from last season, until FIFA 21 comes out!
We predict that Brighton could set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with the line-up as follows: Steele; Veltman, Burn, White, Bernardo; Alzate, Propper; Jahanbakhsh, Gross, Gwargis; Connolly.
We predict that United could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Henderson; Fosu-Mensah, Bailly, Maguire, Williams; Fred, McTominay; Mata, Van de Beek, Lingard; Ighalo.
With both teams not playing their strongest lineups, this simulated game was not an interesting watch. Brighton had more of the ball in the first-half, with United looking the marginally more dangerous of the two sides, but there were no real chances to speak of in the opening 45 minutes.
The second-half was the same story, as despite the introductions of Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford, United lacked cohesion going forwards, with Brighton suffering from the same problem.
After an uneventful 90 minutes, this simulated game went to penalties to decide the winner in this tie. Here are how the two sides lined up with their first five penalty takers.
In the shootout, Dean Henderson was the hero for United, saving all three of Brighton’s first three penalties, putting United on the brink of a cup tie win.
The pressure was now on Marcus Rashford to score from the spot, with the England international duly sending Steele the wrong way and leading the celebrations, as United progressed to the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup.
It wasn’t the best performance again from United, but they got the job done, just like what happened in their last Premier League game.
FIFA 20 predicted score: Brighton 0-0 Manchester United (United win on penalties 0-3 )
Here are the full-time match stats…
It was a very poor game, as the match stats suggest, with little to no chances of note and no real talking points either. In regards to United, their highest-rated player on the day was full-back Fosu-Mensah, who performed well stepping in for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
FIFA 20 predicts a dour encounter on Wednesday night for United, as Solskjaer’s side eventually get a penalty shootout win, wtih Dean Henderson the hero in the shootout.
