Welcome to Standard Sport’s rolling coverage of the summer transfer window as the speculation ramps up.

The window officially opened in July after the completion of the delayed 2019-2020 Premier League season. Clubs will now be busy tweaking their squads ahead of the new campaign, with the deadline pushed back until October 5.

Arsenal have added Willian and are closing in on the signing of Gabriel Magalhaes, while Chelsea have added Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell to a squad already boasting new arrivals Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

Manchester United continue to work on a deal for Jadon Sancho with Donny van de Beek set to join in a £40m deal, and Tottenham have signed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart and Matt Doherty.

Liverpool are biding their time in pursuit of Thiago Alcantara, but the biggest story is that Lionel Messi has requested to leave Barcelona.

Van de Beek to Man United: ‘Here we go’ 

Here we go! This is really picking up pace now! 

Manchester United have had a bid of €40million (£35.6m) for Donny van de Beek accepted by Ajax, according to Fabrizio Romano. 

United reportedly sent their first official bid tonight, which the Dutch champions immediately accepted without negotiation. 

Romano reports the final paperwork and his medical will take place next week! 


Rashford provides Van de Beek his approval ahead of his move

It’s not only the fans who are delighted by the news of Donny van de Beek’s seemingly imminent move to Manchester United! 

Star striker Marcus Rashford has taken to Twitter to like a tweet by Fabrizio Romano, of which he reported that United are confident of completing a move for the Ajax man next week.

Standard Sport understands the 23-year-old is close to becoming Ole Gunnar Solskajer’s first signing of the summer after talks progressed significantly over the weekend.

Fulham sign Lemina on loan 

Fulham have announced the signing of Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina on a season-long loan with an option to buy. 

After promotion from the Championship, Scott Parker looks to add proven Premier League quality to his squad. 

Of his move, Lemina said: “Now I’m with Fulham, I’m really happy and I’m glad to be part of the project.

“I spoke with the manager and he’s got some good ideas about the team, about the project, about everything he wants to do this season, and I’m happy to be a part of it.”



Valencia target Guendouzi 

Valencia have made contact with Arsenal regarding a proposed move for Matteo Guendouzi, according to Super Deporte. 

The 21-year-old has fallen to the periphery of the Arsenal squad, having not played since his clash with Brighton striker Neal Maupay in June. 

Mikel Arteta has hinted he the midfielder has a chance to be reintegrated into the squad. 

Valencia are interested in prizing him away from London, however, though they could only afford a loan deal.

So, it seems appears as if Manchester United are edging towards their first high-profile signing of the summer! And it comes in the shape of Donny van de Beek! 

Standard Sport understands the Ajax midfielder has been on United’s radar for some time now – but what will he bring Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team?

Well firstly, for a man just 23-years-old, he’s done a lot! Van de Beek is an established Netherlands international who has won three trophies during his time at Ajax. 

The midfielder has scored 41 goals and provided 34 assists in 175 games for the Dutch club, including 21 goal involvements in just 37 games last season. 

Alongside Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes in midfield. United start to look some attacking threat! 



Barcelona interested in Umtiti-Depay swap-deal 

From a potentially future Manchester United player to a former one! 

Barcelona are interested in signing Lyon forward Memphis Depay this summer and are willing to include Samuel Umtiti in a deal, report Mundo Deportivo. 

Newly-appointed boss Ronald Koeman is looking to freshen up his attack this summer, with a swap deal ideal due to their sky-high wage bill. 

It was Lyon where Umtiti began his career, and Barcelona are hoping the 26-year-old will happily return.

Standard Sport understands the Dutchman is close to becoming Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first signing this summer, after talks progressed significantly over the weekend. 

United stepped up their pursuit after initially weighing up a move in January.

They have monitored his situation ever since – well aware of Real Madrid’s hopes of taking him to the Bernabeu.

A fee in the region of £40million is believed to be in place to land the Holland international.

Van de Beek is seen as an ideal fit by Solskjaer.



Man Utd ‘agree’ Van de Beek deal 

Manchester United have reached a “total agreement” to sign Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek, according to reports.

Fabrizio Romano has reported United have agreed personal terms with the Dutchman, who has agreed a five-year deal at the club. 

Dutch outlet De Telegraaf have also reported United have agreed a fee for the 23-year-old, which they claim is €45million (£40m) including bonuses. 



Leeds in talks to sign Udinese midfielder

Leeds have opened talks with Udinese over the signing of midfielder Rodrigo De Paul, according to Goal. 

Marcelo Bielsa is looking to significantly strengthen this summer and the 26-year-old is reportedly one of his prime targets. 

Udinese are said to be demanding £27million for De Paul, who is attracting interest from a number of Serie A clubs. 




Barca face significant fee to cancel Suarez contract

Barcelona will have to pay £12million if they are to cancel Luis Suarez’s contract this summer, according to Goal.

Newly-appointed manager Ronald Koeman will likely have a significantly different squad to play with next season, with all-but seven players up for sale. 

Suarez has been deemed surplus to requirements by Koeman, who told the Uruguayan he doesn’t feature in his plans. 

The 33-year-old – who has reportedly received interest from five clubs – will leave should the club cancel his contract. 



Lampard explains what Chilwell will bring Chelsea

Frank Lampard believes Chelsea have gained a “great addition” in Ben Chilwell, who he insists will improve his side offensively and defensively. 

Lampard long considered Chilwell as his ideal long-term solution at left-back, bringing the 23-year-old to Stamford Bridge in what was believed to be a £50million deal.

“With Ben Chilwell, he is a player I know very well, he has been pretty much England’s first-choice left-back now in recent times,” Lampard told the club’s website.

“Great qualities in terms of how he can join in, he is athletic, his physicality, the way he plays and the quality of his left foot.

“For us in terms of how he can help out on the left side, attack-wise and defensively, which of course is always first and foremost, I am excited to work with him so I think he is a great addition. 

“At 23 years of age, it is a really positive one for us.”



Van de Beek tells team-mates he’s leaving Ajax

Donny van de Beek has told his team-mates he will be leaving Ajax for Manchester United this summer, report Sport. 

The 23-year-old was lest out of Ajax’s squad for both friendlies against Frankfurt and Union Berlin over the weekend, with boss Erik ten Hag confirming it was due to “developments” regarding his future. 

The Netherlands international is now reportedly expected to finalise a move to United next week. 




Havertz edging closer to Chelsea move 

Kai Havertz is edging closer to completing his move to Chelsea after he was absent from Bayer Leverkusen’s first pre-season fitness tests, according to Bild. 

The midfielder reportedly was in attendance to complete mandatory coronavirus tests on Friday and Saturday – which he needed before joining the German national side next week. 

He was not involved in their pre-season fitness tests on Sunday, however, with Leverkusen’s opening training session to come tomorrow.

Bild suggest Havertz’s switch to Chelsea was edging closer, however, while fellow journalist Fabrizio Romano added it is “just a matter of time” before the Germany international will join Frank Lampard’s side after an agreement was reached a week ago.

Standard Sport understands Chelsea are close to agreeing a deal in for Havertz, in which they could pay an initial £70million plus further add-ons potentially in excess of £15million.



Lampard excited by Werner-Ziyech link-up 

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has been left excited by the prospect of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech linking up after they made their unofficial debuts on Saturday.

The pair both started as Chelsea drew 1-1 with Brighton with 2,500 fans allowed in to watch at the Amex Stadium. 

“I thought Timo was really sharp and bright,” Lampard told the club’s website. “He got his goal really early in the game, he showed some of the qualities that I know very well he has so I am very excited about having him in the squad.

“I thought his work rate and everything about him was a great little start for him and Hakim Ziyech the same, some of his contributions and passing and quality levels were great.”



Newcastle in talks for Holding 

Newcastle are in talks with Arsenal regarding a proposed loan signing of Rob Holding, report Sky Sports.

The defender started in Arsenal’s Community Shield victory over Arsenal on Saturday. 

However, with William Saliba returning to the squad, while Gabriel is likely to sign imminently, his chances will be likely limited this season. 




Newcastle interested in Porto’s Marega 

Newcastle are weighing up a summer move for Porto striker Moussa Marega, report A Bola.

The Premier League side are reportedly willing to offer £13million for the 29-year-old, who has just one year remaining on his contract. 

Porto will reportedly look to hold out for £18million, however. 

Meanwhile, Newcastle face competition from Premier League rivals West Ham, who are also reportedly keeping tabs on the situation. 



Arsenal in pole position to sign Coutinho

Arsenal have moved ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona, report Don Balon.

Chelsea have reportedly dropped out of the race to sign the former Liverpool midfielder, whose season-long loan at Bayern Munich has now come to an end. 

Standard Sport understands Chelsea are close to reaching a deal for Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz. 

That could leave the door wide open for Arsenal, with newly-appointed Barcelona boss to allow a number of first-team players to leave. 



Arsenal interested in Brentford pair 

Arsenal are contemplating summer moves for Brentford pair Said Benrahma and David Raya, according to 90Min.

A number of Brentford’s key players are said to be keen to move on after they lost in the Championship play-off final last month. 

Brentford’s head of set pieces Andreas Georgson and goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana have recently made the switch to Arsenal, and they have reportedly recommended the two players. 




Keane signs five-year Everton deal 

Everton defender Michael Keane has signed a new five-year contract that will keep him at Goodison Park until 2025. 

The 27-year-old played in every minute of Everton’s 2019/20 Premier League campaign, impressing significantly under Carlo Ancelotti. 

Kean – who previously had two years remaining on his deal – was on Tuesday recalled to Gareth Southgate’s England squad. 



Wolves end Maitland-Niles pursuit 

Wolves have ended their interest in Ainsley Maitland-Niles as they believe Arsenal want to keep him report Sky Sports. 

Sky Sports report they’ve been informed Arsenal are looking to tie the defender down to a new long-term deal, of which he still has three years remaining. 

The 23-year-old put in a stunning performance to earn the Man of the Match award in Arsenal’s Community Shield win over Liverpool. 

Maitland-Niles has also been called up into Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

When does the 2020 summer transfer window close?

The window is now open for 10 weeks from July 27.

Following consultation with the EFL, a domestic-only window will be added from 5 October, closing 5pm on 16 October. During this window, Premier League clubs will only be able to trade with EFL clubs (either loans or permanent registrations). No transfers can take place between Premier League clubs in this period.
