Transfer news LIVE! Aouar to Arsenal OFF; Chelsea want Partey; Manchester United 'sign' Facundo Pellistri

8 min read

Welcome to the Evening Standard’s live coverage of the latest news and rumours from the transfer window.

Time is running out for Premier League sides to make changes to their squad for the 2020-21 season. Clubs have until October 5 to sign players from Europe, though deals with EFL clubs can continue until October 16.

So far, Chelsea have put the rest to shame with eight new additions while Tottenham have made a statement of intent of their own in re-signing Gareth Bale – with Sergio Reguilon also arriving from Real Madrid – while striker Carlos Vinicius has joined from Benfica on an initial loan deal.

Champions Liverpool have bolstered in the form of Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota – but it remains quiet for Manchester United as their pursuit of Jadon Sancho was put under added pressure following a tough Champions League group-stage draw.

Arsenal have also been busy, and are targeting Lyon captain Houssem Aouar and Thomas Partey in what could be a dramatic finish to the transfer window.

Live Updates

Sessegnon set for Hoffenheim loan

Reports in France suggest Tottenham full-back Ryan Sessegnon will head to Hoffenheim on a season-long loan deal.

The 20-year-old has struggled for game time under Jose Mourinho and is yet to feature for Spurs this season.

Despite interest from Southampton, RMC Sport claim Sessegnon will follow the route taken by dozens of English youngsters in heading to the Bundesliga for first-team football.

More on Aouar

RMC Sport, via Sport Witness, that Lyon have ended all chances of both Houssem Aouar and Memphis Depay leaving this summer. They will attend training at 6pm this evening and will be in the squad to face Marseille on Sunday.

Aouar was reportedly in discussions with both Juventus and Arsenal. Depay wants to join Barcelona.

Rudi Garcia keeps his men.

Aouar to Arsenal is OFF!

That’s it. It’s done. So say Lyon, anyway.

RMC Sport reporting that official word from the club is that all negotiations over deals for Houssem Aouar and Memphis Depay are OFF. Arsenal and Barcelona will have to look elsewhere.

More when we have it.

Dalot played just once following the restart last season but started in United’s 3-0 win over Brighton the Carabao Cup.

The full-back, who joined from Porto for £19million in 2018, looks set to leave the club, however.

Milan had also been interested in Tottenham’s Serge Aurier, but it looks as if he will now stay put.

Sancho left out of Dortmund squad

Borussia Dortmund insist he is staying, but this is news with the transfer deadline approaching. He’s “ill”, according to a few local reporters, though trained on Thursday and Friday.

Manchester United given hope? We’ll see.

Hodgson warns against late Zaha bids

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson insists no late bids for Wilfred Zaha will be entertained, explaining the club would need ample time to find a replacement.

“Well I have been told and I think Wilf has had it made clear to him that we are not interested in late bids,” Hodgson told reporters.

“If it was going to happen, it would need to happen in a time frame which would give us a chance to see what we would want to do with the money.

“So close to the end of the transfer window, I would certainly hope it will not happen now and I want to continue working with him.”

Man United ‘agree’ Pellistri deal

Manchester United have agreed a contract with Uruguayan wonderkid Facundo Pellistri, according to local media.

The 18-year-old will sign a five-year contract after leaving Penarol with United beating the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid to his signature.

Sport890 claim negotatiations are now close to completion between United and Penarol, though the latter want to keeper Pellistri until January.

One to watch.

The forward had reportedly been told he was high up on United’s back-up options should a deal for Jadon Sancho fail to come to fruition.

And though Bale was keen on the move, he reportedly couldn’t wait any longer after receiving a bid from Spurs.

Barca confirm Eric Garcia interest

Following Pep Guardiola’s comments last night, Ronald Koeman has said this: “It’s true we want Eric Garcia here.

“I’ve seen Pep’s comments and that’s how it is. I hope we get it done but we know the situation is tough financially.

“There’s interest, but don’t know if we will get it over the line.”

The Ghanaian is one of Arsenal’s top targets, but having failed to wrap up a deal for the Atletico midfielder, will it be a case of you snooze, you lose for Arsenal?

Lampard open to Hudson-Odoi loan

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has revealed he is open to Callum Hudson-Odoi leaving on loan before Monday’s deadline.

The winger, who is yet to feature in the Premier League this season, has been linked once more to Bayern Munich.

Lampard has now confirmed he would consider letting him, Fikayo Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek leave on loan.

Lampard said: “With every player in the squad, if it is a situation of a loan you have to consider what is best for the player, what is best for the club first and foremost, and then see how it stacks up.

“With all those three players I will always take those things into consideration. I have not got an answer on any of those three.

“I have a good relationship with them all and speak honestly with them. That is one we will broach player by player over the next few days.”

Dembele ready to join Manchester United

Ousmane Dembele wasn’t keen on joining Manchester United a few days ago, but L’Equipe reports that the France international has had a change of heart.

Manchester United have been forced to look at options beyond Jadon Sancho with the club’s bargaining tactics having appeared to have failed miserably.

Barcelona are yet to sanction a move, but Standard Sport understands they would be willing to let Dembele leave, either on loan or in a permanent deal.

Real Madrid rival Arsenal for Aouar

According to L’Equipe, Real Madrid have launched their bid for Houssem Aouar, a team the Lyon midfielder would prefer to join over Arsenal.

In fact, there are a few clubs Aouar would prefer to join over Arsenal and Juventus, another interested party, is also in the frame.

The report adds: “Arsenal, who have been after Aouar for several weeks, appear to be the default option & have not offered the money required to close the deal.”

One more to go for Spurs?

Tottenham will refocus their attentions on Milan Skriniar before the transfer window shuts on Monday.

Spurs finally signed the back-up striker they wanted by bringing in Carlos Vinicius from Benfica – initially on loan – and will now move for Jose Mourinho’s No1 defensive target.

Spurs and Inter Milan are said to be some way off with their valuation, but with Tottenham maintaining other options also, they could yet strike a deal with the Serie A side.
