Crystal Palace 1-0 Brighton | Jack Rosser at Selhurst Park

Narrow offside call but a fine run and finish from Michy Batshuayi there. With Palace not having much of the ball and hardly squeezing Brighton up field, Batshuayi will need to do more of that if he’s to have an impact.

Unfortunate to just be caught off but maybe a little confidence booster for the on-loan Chelsea striker.

Michy Batshuayi thinks he’s doubled the Palace lead but he’s denied by the offside flag.

Crystal Palace 1-0 Brighton | Jack Rosser at Selhurst Park

This has been far from attractive viewing but a first half Palace will be largely pleased with. However, with just three touches in the Brighton box so far – including the penalty – Palace will want to get a bit more control over proceedings in the second half and another goal would of course make them far more confident.

Jairo Riedewald is growing into his role in the middle and looks confident in possession, more time on the ball for him should give Palace far more control over the game and allow Michy Batshuayi to be more involved going forward, it’s not really been the Belgian’s sort of game so far.

A seventh career goal against Brighton for Wilfried Zaha, Palace showing their threat on the counter once more. They’ve had to soak up plenty of pressure from Graham Potter’s side but are so effective going forward when they get the chance.

It may have come from a penalty but Andros Townsend did well to get his cross into such a dangerous area. Brighton have played some nice football so far but Palace are notoriously difficult to break down.

LIVERPOOL NEWS

Everton 2-2 Liverpool | Richarlison issues Thiago apology

Everton star Richarlison has issued a public apology to Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara after his horrendous red card challenge in yesterday’s Merseyside derby.

“What happened today was a fatality from sheer over-dedication,” he wrote on his website. “I did not enter that dispute with the intention of hurting Thiago. When I saw that the crash was going to happen, I picked up my foot and hit him with my knee in the pass, which was inevitable due to the speed of the play.

“I already sent a message to him apologising and I also do it here publicly. I hope he hasn’t been hurt and that everything is fine.”

A pretty soft penalty as Tariq Lamptey is adjudged to have fouled Michy Batshuayi at the back post.

Crystal Palace 0-0 Brighton | Jack Rosser at Selhurst Park

Wilfried Zaha never needs an excuse to get stuck into Brighton. The Palace talisman has more goals against their bitter rivals than any other side across his career and is getting fired up already.

He’s been following Brighton’s Ben White, playing in midfield this afternoon, around the pitch ranting into his ear early on. Roy Hodgson will be hoping the No11 can keep a lid on it and channel that anger into a strong performance and not get too distracted by it, which has been a problem in the past. That will be a good battle.

Crystal Palace 0-0 Brighton

5 mins: The big thing to note early on is that Ben White is playing in defensive midfield for Brighton, rather than in his usual role in a back three.

Full-time | Sheffield United 1-1 Fulham

The points are shared at Bramall Lane, but Scott Parker will feel it’s two points dropped. Fulham missed one penalty and conceded another with five minutes to go – but at least they’re off the mark this season.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton (2pm) | Jack Rosser at Selhurst Park

A couple of big calls on a big day for Roy Hodgson here today. Firstly, with both Gary Cahill and Mamadou Sakho fit, it’s good to see Cheikhou Kouyate continuing at the back. The former West Ham man, signed as a midfielder, has been excellent in covering as a central defender in recent weeks and more than deserves his place alongside Cahill.

In midfield, with James McCarthy injured on international duty, it is a huge vote of confidence for Jairo Riedewald. The Dutchman, signed  by Frank de Boer and largely un-fancied by Hodgson, has seemingly jumped above club captain Luka Milivojevic in the midfield pecking order. Riedewald has been used across the pitch to cover injuries before, but this is a huge chance for him to make a mark today.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton | Alan Smith’s view

The statistics don’t look great. Palace stand bottom of the league in several areas, including possession and passing accuracy. That said, the numbers didn’t look great last season either and Roy Hodgson’s side finished nine points above the relegation zone.

That was mainly down to the manager’s expertise, which should continue to come to Palace’s aid, despite the lack of funds at Selhurst Park. Apart from Burnley and Brighton, nobody spent less than the Eagles in the transfer window.

It just goes to show that a club won’t go out of its way to splash the cash if a manager proves he can get by.

Liverpool face nervous wait on Van Dijk

Liverpool are awaiting scan results to determine to extent of Virgil van Dijk’s knee injury amid fears the defender faces an extended spell on the sidelines.

Van Dijk was hurt by a challenge from Everton keeper Jordan Pickford in Saturday’s Merseyside derby. The 29-year-old is due to see a specialist on Sunday but Liverpool fear he could face a long spell out.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said on Saturday: “Virgil played I don’t know how many games in a row, he plays with pain, but he couldn’t play on. That’s not good.”

Tottenham vs West Ham team news

Dan Kilpatrick will be at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for us today, and he has some news on whether Gareth Bale will be involved…

“Understand Bale set to start on the bench vs West Ham. Also not expecting Dele or Dier to be involved, Mourinho saying the latter was a doubt yesterday.”
