United have had a mixed start to the season, with their opening day 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace being followed up with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Brighton.
The defending from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in both games, however, was far from ideal. Against Palace Victor Lindelof was involved in each of the three goals conceded as he made a catalogue of errors and gave away an unfortunate penalty.
It was a similar story on the south coast as Brighton had 18 shots on goal, with United fortunate that they only managed to score from two of them. One was another needlessly given away penalty while the other came as poor positioning allowed Solly March to nod home.
As a result of their poor performances at the back fans would like to see some changes be made at the heart of defence for Sunday’s clash against top four rivals Spurs.
M.E.N. Sport asked supporters: “What should United’s centre-back partnership be against Tottenham?”
The overwhelming winner with 87.6 per cent of the 7,710 votes was the pairing of Maguire and Bailly. The Ivorian spent the vast majority of last season on the sidelines but now back fully fit and put in an impressive display against Brighton in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
He played alongside Lindelof in the 3-0 victory and off the back of that clean sheet their partnership has actually come second in our poll with 7.4 per cent of the vote. Fans were clearly impressed by the duo and some would like to see it tested in a league fixture.
In third place came Maguire and Lindelof, which has been Solskjaer’s first choice pairing for a number of months but has shown critical flaws so far this season, with just 3.1 per cent of the vote. In last place came ‘other’ with 1.9 per cent, with some supporters are clamouring to see highly-rated teenager Teden Mengi get a chance in the side.
