Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified Moussa Dembele and Nicolas Pepe as potential replacements for Manchester United forward Romelu Lukaku, reports say.

Lukaku has endured a turbulent spell at Old Trafford since signing from Everton for £75million in the summer of 2017, with the Belgian scoring 42 goals in 96 appearances in all competitions.

The 26-year-old only netted 12 Premier League goals last season, losing his place in United’s starting line-up to England ace Marcus Rashford.

Solskjaer has warned Lukaku that he will be forced to play back-up to Rashford again next season, leaving the Belgium international considering his future at Man United.

Lukaku would ideally secure a move to Inter Milan, who have expressed interest in a deal, before travelling to Australia for Manchester United’s pre-season tour.

His £80m valuation is causing problems, however, and Lukaku will not force through a move by handing in a transfer request.

But the Evening Standard say Solskjaer is willing if not desperate to sell the striker and has identified Lyon’s Dembele and Lille’s Pepe as two potential replacements.

France U21 star Dembele has impressed in Ligue 1 following a move from Celtic last year, while Pepe has attracted attention from Liverpool as well as the Red Devils.

Solskjaer wants to significantly bolster his squad this summer and a cash injection of £80m would help the club in their quest to secure a number of deals.

Manchester United made Welsh star Daniel James their first summer signing last month, before completing a £50m move for Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka over the weekend.

But Solskjaer still wants to see two high-class midfielders, a centre-back and another forward arrive through the doors at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils endured a shocking campaign last season, finishing sixth in the Premier League.
