Solskjaer gives verdict on Pogba performance for Man United vs Burnley

2 min read

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Manchester United are seeing the best of Paul Pogba at the moment after another influential display in the win at Burnley.

The 27-year-old scored the only goal of the game and produced a man-of-the-match performance against the Clarets to help United move three points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Pogba has been United’s best player over the past month and he’s becoming a key man for Solskjaer at the moment, with the Norwegian putting his slow start to the season down to fitness issues and a battle to fully recover from contracting COVID-19 in pre-season.

“We’re seeing the best of Paul I feel. He’s getting better and better every game. He’s been injured and had Covid. It’s just natural that he needed some time to get fit,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports.

Solskjaer also hailed Pogba’s influence in the dressing room on a young squad. The World Cup winner looks set to leave the club this summer but he’s produced his best run of form for two years on the back of comments from his agent Mino Raiola that his time at Old Trafford was over.

“I’ve always said Paul is a big, big player for us. He’s a big character in the dressing room, he’s always one the lads look to, he’s a world champion of course,” said Solskjaer.

Pogba’s winning goal was a sweetly struck volley from 18 yards after he was picked out by Marcus Rashford’s dinked cross.

“They (Burnley) are so well organised, they don’t leave many spaces. It was a great cross and a very well-executed finish,” said Solskjaer. “We could have had one or two more at the end but we like to do it the hard way.”
