Scott McTominay praises three Manchester United players after Tottenham win

2 min read

Scott McTominay praised the performances of Manchester United players Paul Pogba, Fred and Edinson Cavani against Tottenham.

United bounced back from 1-0 down to register a memorable second-half display at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, running out 3-1 winners with all their goals coming in the second half.

Fred levelled after Son Heung-Min’s first-half opener for Spurs, before Cavani latched onto a Mason Greenwood cross — with Greenwood completing the win himself in stoppage time.

It was a satisfying afternoon for United, particularly after they’d seen a first-half effort from Cavani ruled out due to a perceived foul from McTominay on Son.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Scot gave his reaction to the VAR decision, though he preferred to single out his teammates for their performances instead.

He said: “At half-time the message was clear: just keep calm, no need to panic. We know that we have good character in the team and against a really difficult team, so we’re happy.

“Sometimes that’s the way football goes,” he said on the disallowed goal.

“Personally I’m not a fan of VAR but the referees have to make decisions. It was a case of keeping calm. Everybody makes mistakes and that’s part and parcel of it.

“It was a total injustice but you just have to get on with the game. Getting three points in a really difficult game was pleasing.

“Fred was terrific today, along with Paul [Pogba] and Mason [Greenwood]. They had real energy and the manager will be pleased with a lot of players today.

“We owed Tottenham a proper game — we had that in our minds — and today was much better than last time.”
