Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves are in agreement that Mason Greenwood is the best finisher at Manchester United.
Speaking pre-match on BT Sport, United legend Scholes said the 19-year-old can become a world-class player if he continues at his current rate of development.
He said: “He’s a special talent, we know that. I think if he keeps his head down and keeps working hard then this lad can go right to the very top of the game.
“He’s got everything, he’s got quality from the left-hand side and the right-hand side, great feet, great crosser of the ball, but also, I think he’s the best finisher at the club.
“I think we’ll see him play centre-forward tonight, but give this lad chances and he will score goals. This lad is destined to be a superstar, but like I said, he’s got to keep his feet on the ground, keep working hard and there’s nothing to stop him.”
It’s not the first time Scholes has claimed Greenwood is the best finisher at United, as he said the same thing during the Champions League group phase after the youngster had scored in a win over RB Leipzig.
Hargreaves agreed with Scholes’ assertion prior to kick-off in Turin and also pointed out that Greenwood’s passing has impressed him in recent times.
He said: “Everyone talks about his finishing, Scholesy is right, he’s probably the most natural finisher, but his assists are up. In terms of passing and the weight of it, whether he’s playing a through ball or clipping crosses in – he’s just an exceptional footballer.
“I remember when he came on against PSG and he was getting between the lines, getting on the ball and turning – I couldn’t believe it, when you see how good he is on the ball when you see him in the flesh.
“Everyone talks about his finishing, but he’s a fabulous all-round player.”
