Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs insists that his former club are still ‘three players’ away from challenging Liverpool and Manchester City as the Old Trafford men weigh up a mega-money move for Jadon Sancho.
The Red Devils have completely transformed their fortunes since the turn of the year, with Thursday’s win over Crystal Palace extending their unbeaten run to 19 games in all competitions.
That form has propelled Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side into the race for Champions League football next season, while the club are still in the hunt for FA Cup and Europa League glory.
Ryan Giggs believes Man United are ‘three signings’ from competing with Liverpool and City
The Red Devils have been in sublime form of late and are unbeaten in their last 19 games
A huge part of their success can be attributed to the arrival of Bruno Fernandes, who joined the club from Sporting Lisbon in January. The Portuguese midfielder has lifted the performances of the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
The club’s recent form has stirred excitement among fans as to their chances of Premier League glory next season, with high hopes that the side can challenge Liverpool and City for the title.
And Giggs, who won 34 trophies with the club during his 24-year spell at the club, believes his former club are still behind the league’s frontrunners, but feels that another productive transfer window can put United well and truly in contention.

‘I still think we’re off City and Liverpool by two or three players,’ he told Premier League Productions. ‘But Ole has done really, really well in the two transfer windows he’s had.
‘Good characters are coming in. You see [Bruno] Fernandes, he looks like a leader, he looks like a character. [Harry] Maguire, he’s their captain.’
Giggs stressed that acquiring the right players won’t necessarily lead to on-field success, adding that the club’s culture needs to be right for the team to thrive.
‘It’s not just about having the players, it’s about having that culture, that character that can improve not only the starting eleven but the squad and the overall feeling around the club,’ he added.

United have been linked with a mega-money £109m move for Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho
‘They’re certainly moving in the right direction. But, I still believe we need three new players.’
United have been linked with a busy summer transfer window, with Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Reports from Germany suggest that the Bundesliga club are anticipating an offer of £109million to secure the services of the wantaway star, in what would be a club-record deal for the 20-year-old.
Wolves striker Raul Jimenez is also believed to be on the club’s radar, as well as defensive options such as Milan Skriniar and Kalidou Koulibaly.
