Roy Keane believes Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is “ready to explode” during this summer’s Euros.
Rashford recorded impressive statistics for United this season, registering 21 goals and nine assists across all competitions.
The 23-year-old’s form dipped at the tail end of the campaign, as he scored just one goal in his final 10 appearances, and also put in a poor display in the Europa League final.
However, former United captain Roy Keane doesn’t think England fans should be worried about Rashford this summer.
“Sometimes you look at players who have had a quiet spell, quiet because they’ve set such high standards,” Keane told Micah Richards. “Rashford and [Raheem] Sterling, for example. But I think that is a good thing. You’re going into the tournament going ‘these lads are ready to explode’.
“Gareth [Southgate] definitely likes Rashford and Sterling.”
Rashford netted the only goal of the game as England beat Romania in Sunday night’s friendly.
England go into the tournament as one of the favourites to win the tournament, with the likes of Harry Kane, Phil Foden and Mason Mount all coming off the back of stellar seasons for their respective clubs.
Still, Keane doesn’t think they are worth the hype and believes will falter in the latter stages of the competition.
“I’m going to probably say the semi-final. They may be caught out”, he said.
England will get their campaign underway on Sunday when they face Croatia, the side that beat them in the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup.
