Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes Paul Pogba will stay at Old Trafford if the club manage to win major honours this season.

The Frenchman has 18 months to run on his existing deal at the Theatre of Dreams and his agent, Mino Raiola, claimed in early December that the midfielder wants to leave the club as he is ‘unhappy’.

However, Pogba’s form since those comments has been sensational and it’s sparked hope that the France international could stay at the club.

United have not ruled out offering Pogba an extension to his deal but Ferdinand believes the club need to win silverware this season if they’re to convince the midfielder to stay.

‘Whenever I’ve spoken to Paul Pogba, he’s happiest when he is playing football on a regular basis,’ Ferdinand told Five.

‘When he is playing good football and winning, he is a happy person. Man United right now must be a happy place for him to be.

‘For him to leave and go somewhere else if they win the league as well, I think it’ll be very difficult.

‘It’ll be very difficult for him to walk out and a new contract will be on the table.

‘For him to walk away from something he was very committed to when he walked through the door, he wanted to win things here.’

Juventus, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are all interested in signing Pogba but the Frenchman is believed to favour a return to Turin.

Despite Raiola’s comments, Pogba has remain tight-lipped over his future and he told Ferdinand during a BT interview on Wednesday that he will wait until the end of the season before speaking to United over a new deal.

‘You were waiting for this one [the question about his future]!,’ Pogba told BT Sport.

‘I’m on contract, I’m here, I’m enjoying myself. Everyone knows I have one year left. We’re going to speak to the club to see what’s going on.

‘For now, my objective, my goal is to win something. That’s all I’m thinking about, to win. That’s all I’m focused on, the contract is not important.’
