Rio Ferdinand has warned Manchester United against selling Paul Pogba and says the midfielder is almost ‘impossible’ to replace.

The French World Cup winner looked set to leave Old Trafford just a few months ago, with Real Madrid and Juventus keen on securing his signature.

But Pogba has looked revitalised since the season resumed last month – combining well with January signing Bruno Fernandes – and is now in talks to sign a new long-term deal.

Ferdinand has been impressed by Pogba’s recent form and says Manchester United should not be thinking about the offloading the midfielder who is ‘nigh-on impossible’ to replace.

‘I’ve seen a lot of people, a lot of fans, a lot of pundits say they have to get rid of him if they want to improve,’ Ferdinand told BT Sport.

‘Man United have not seen the best of Paul Pogba. We’re beginning to see it now. It’s fashionable.

‘What I’m saying is now they’re beginning to see what he’s about, potentially what he could’ve been when they signed him.

‘Now they’re going to start seeing that. Why sell him now? If you’re going to replace him, who?

‘Who’s actually better than him and gettable in the world right now? It’s nigh-on impossible. Keep him.’

Pogba helped Manchester United secure a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Thursday evening, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side stayed level on points with fourth-placed Leicester City.

Speaking after the win, Solskjaer said: ‘No-one thought in January that we would be in with a shout for top four.

‘We have done fantastic since the restart. These are the games that matter. That is the thing at Manchester United, you have to step up and show your personality.’

The Red Devils face Chelsea in the semi-finals of the FA Cup on Sunday.
