Rashford apologises to Manchester United supporters after Tottenham defeat

2 min read

Marcus Rashford sent an apology to Manchester United’s supporters following the team’s humiliating loss to Tottenham Hotspur and has promised that the team will improve.

United’s poor start to the Premier League season got even worse on Sunday as, despite taking the lead inside the opening two minutes, they repeatedly shot themselves in the foot and lost 6-1 to Jose Mourinho’s side.

Bruno Fernandes had put United ahead from the penalty spot but just seven minutes later Spurs had taken the lead, as abject defending led to Tanguy Ndombele and Son Heung-min both scoring.

All hopes of a victory were then dashed when Anthony Martial was sent off for violent conduct before Harry Kane and Son scored again to make it 4-1 by half-time.

There was little improvement in the second-half as Tottenham added two more through Serge Aurier and Kane, and United could count themselves lucky that they didn’t see more players sent off or more goals conceded.

Rashford was hurt by the result and took to Twitter to apologise to the fans.

“First and foremost I’m a United fan,” he wrote on Twitter.”This is my club. I’m so proud to wear this shirt but there are no excuses, it’s just not good enough and to every single fan around the world that tuned in, I’m just so sorry.

“You deserve so much better than that. I would have stayed away from social media tonight but you deserve to hear from me during the highs and the lows, there is no hiding.

“I feel horrible but I promise you we will do better.”
