Pogba names secret behind Cavani goal for Man United vs Granada

Paul Pogba says his own spacial awareness played a huge part in Manchester United’s opening goal against Granada on Thursday night.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side booked their place in the semi finals of the Europa League thanks to a professional 2-0 win at Old Trafford.

A late own goal from Jesus Vallejo solidified the win for United but it was a brilliantly worked goal which had put them ahead earlier in the match.

Pogba, who captained United in the absence of Harry Maguire, picked out Cavani with a beautiful cushioned header in the box, before the Uruguayan volleyed the ball into the back of the net.

It was a moment of magic which gave United the lead in the encounter and Pogba has lifted the lid on his own involvement to set his teammate up.

“I made the run and I knew he was behind me,” the Frenchman told BT Sport. “The way the ball went to him it was perfect. A beautiful goal.”

“(I’m) just glad that I can help my teammate to score.”

Speaking after the match fellow midfielder Bruno Fernandes also went out of his way to praise Cavani for the impact he made in the forward line.

“He is a proper striker, a proper number nine,” Fernandes told BT Sport. “It was a good game. The Europa League is always difficult to play. It doesn’t matter who you play against.”
