Pogba gives theory why Shaw has improved so much for Man United

2 min read

Paul Pogba suggests Luke Shaw’s remarkable season at Manchester United is largely down to the ‘trust’ which Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shown in him.

Shaw enjoyed a bright start to life at Old Trafford when he arrived in 2014, but saw his development curtailed by an horrific leg break a year later, before struggling for consistency under Louis van Gaal and, later, Jose Mourinho upon his return.

The England defender was even frozen out of the first-team after Mourinho openly questioned his decision making, suggesting Shaw lacked football intelligence.

Shaw has regained his self-believe under the guidance of Solskjaer and has taken his game to the next level after rival left-back Alex Telles was brought to the club last summer.

The 25-year-old has arguably been United’s best player this season and teammate Pogba believes the transformation is largely down to the work of Solskjaer.

“Maybe [Solskjaer’s methods work] because he is a bit closer to the people,” Pogba told Sky Sports.

“Every coach has their own way to coach and deal with players, and as a player you have to adapt. Sometimes it doesn’t suit you and sometimes it does.

“Ole has helped Luke a lot, it was a difficult season with Luke and Mourinho, and he has proved he has the quality he always had and the trust of the manager.”
