Pep Guardiola has given Sergio Aguero his blessing to join Man United

The future of Sergio Aguero is among the Premier League’s biggest talking points after Manchester City announced he will leave The Etihad in the summer.

City icon Aguero, who will turn 33 in June, has played a minor role in Pep Guardiola’s charge for glory this season and his future lies elsewhere.

His next destination isn’t yet known but numerous clubs are already being linked with the Argentine, with Barcelona said to be in pole position as things stand.

Premier League sides Arsenal – who are managed by City’s former assistant Mikel Arteta – Chelsea and even Manchester United have been linked with Aguero, who has scored 181 goals in 272 appearances in the English top flight.

A move to United seems particularly far-fetched with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hoping to keep Uruguayan forward Edinson Cavani at Old Trafford for another year.

The Red Devils are also in the running to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, though competition will be fierce for his signature.

On the off chance that Aguero did want to join one of City’s rivals, Guardiola insists he would be happy for the striker to do so.

Guardiola said: “The best for him, we wish – all of us. Find the best for Sergio for the last years in his career, for sure. We’ll be delighted with the decision he takes, the best for him and his family and his career.

“My preference is his preference. His preference is my preference. The best for him is the best for us.”
