Paul Pogba told what to improve at Man Utd after Brighton display

2 min read

Former Manchester United duo Andy Cole and Darren Fletcher were complimentary of Paul Pogba after his cameo performance at Brighton but both men picked out areas of his game that he needs to improve.

Pogba came off the bench at the Amex and contributed to United’s third goal of the night as his free-kick found the back of the net via a deflection.

Cole, who was joined by Fletcher in the Sky Sports studio, believes the United star needs to add more goals to his game, but has never doubted his ability.

The former United striker said: “For Paul, he’s another one that should be getting more goals. I think we all know and appreciate that he is a world-class player. At times, he has had a difficult time at Manchester United, but he has quality and that (the free-kick) goes in which makes his night.”

Likewise, Fletcher had plenty of good things to say about the Frenchman, but believes he could work on his application.

“He’s a fantastic player,” Fletcher said. “Sometimes, it’s just the little things like his reaction to losing the ball and things. The talent is there, he’s not going have the best game all of the time, it’s just the application. He always wants the ball, he’s hungry for it.

“I feel like his performances get criticised to the last detail, but he’s a fantastic footballer. His manager trusts him, his team-mates trust him. Look how much this meant to him tonight – this is a Carabao Cup game to put them in the quarter-final with no fans, away to Brighton and he comes off the bench. He’s absolutely buzzing to score that free-kick, with the help of the deflection, even though Juan Mata told him it was an own-goal, but it was great to see the players at the end of the game.

“This meant a lot to them, because a lot of these players haven’t played in the league and they want to be a part of it. Hopefully that kick starts the season for Paul Pogba and gives him a bit of confidence, because even though you might not think it, all players need confidence.”
