Paul Pogba has joked that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should put him on the bench after statistics showed Manchester United have performed better without him this season.
The Frenchman has been a standout performer for the club since the turn of the year.
However, United have picked up an average of 2.2 points per game with Pogba out of the XI, compared to 1.9 when he has started.
The 28-year-old has started 18 of United’s 34 Premier League matches and when asked about this surprising stat, Pogba joked that he should be benched.
“So you have to put me on the bench then!” Pogba told French outlet Canal+ with a smile.
“I had not seen this statistic. If the team does better without me, I would totally understand that the coach would put me on the bench.
“It’s a good challenge for me anyway. I hope it turns to the other side. I hope people will win more with me than without me.”
Despite Pogba’s improved form this calendar year, he’s yet to win over Roy Keane, who claimed he would swap the midfielder for Aston Villa Jack Grealish.
“Absolutely not. I’d swap Grealish for Pogba tomorrow, absolutely Of course (they can all play together). Why not?” Keane told Sky Sports.

“We look at the stats for Manchester United over the last few years, whether it’s getting to semi-finals or 10 league games where they’ve drawn, seven or eight of them have been 0-0.
“They’ve not had the quality in the crunch times. You can talk about Pogba, but they’ve not done it when they’ve had to do it. If Grealish comes in, get rid of one or two of them, get rid of Pogba, move him on.
“They’re talking about a contract, I think they’re worried because he’s into the last year, if they’re going to cash in on him, then do it this summer. You can’t have enough quality players at a club like Man United.”
