Villarreal defender Pau Torres has played down the possibility of a transfer away from the club this summer amid interest from Manchester United.
The Spain international has courted the attention of numerous clubs across Europe with his impressive performances for the La Liga side, with whom he won the Europa League this season.
United are among the clubs interested in his services, viewing the Europa League final in Gdansk as his ‘final audition’ ahead of a proposed transfer.
While Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane is the prime defensive target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, in the bid to sign a central defensive partner for Harry Maguire, Torres remains under consideration.
Should Manchester United sign Pau Torres this summer? Let us know in the comments below.
However, any transfer would be delayed until after Torres’ exploits at the European Championships with Spain this summer – where United will continue to scout their targets.
While it has been expected that Torres will depart Villarreal in the summer market, the 24-year-old has played down the prospect of a move.
“Right now I have a contract with Villarreal. We’ve won a European trophy. We’ve shown we can compete against any opponent,” he said.
