Patrice Evra has hit out at Donny van de Beek’s advisor over claims the midfielder should start for Manchester United.
The 23-year-old is yet to make a league start for the Reds, despite being their only summer signing prior to Monday’s international deadline.
It led to Van de Beek’s advisor, Sjaak Swart, criticising United over their handling of the player.
Yet, speaking on Sky Sports, Evra – who wrongly labelled Swart as Van de Beek’s agent – questioned why the midfielder should start.
He said: “First of all, I think the agent of Van de Beek should shut his mouth because I don’t understand why he’s involved.
“Talking about Van de Beek, I think every fan is disappointed because now he’s three games in, he hasn’t even started one game.
“I don’t think he’s in competition with Paul Pogba, maybe some fans are going to disagree with me.
“I don’t understand why Van de Beek isn’t starting yet, this is the third game. It shows you, we don’t need him because when you buy a player, it’s a player you need to win the league.
“Is Van de Beek going to win the league for us? No. That’s the proof, he doesn’t start.
“I don’t know if it’s an injury, but the sign you’re getting from outside; you buy Van de Beek and the only signing of Man United, he hasn’t started.”
