Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has branded Manchester United target Dayot Upamecano a ‘very good player’ and talked up the prospect of seeing him in action when the Red Devils face RB Leipzig on Wednesday night.
The 22-year-old was linked with a whole host of top clubs back in the summer, however, he ended up staying at the German club and extending his contract until 2023.
Upamecano’s new deal reportedly includes a bargain €40million (£36.5m) buy-out clause which will become active next summer – and United and Liverpool both still said to be keen.
Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s clash against Leipzig at Old Trafford, Solskjaer refused to be drawn on a potential move for the defender, but admitted he is a top player.
‘There’s always rumours and speculation about other players and Manchester United,’ the Norwegian boss said. ‘I don’t want to comment on every player we’re linked to.
‘Since he’s playing against us tomorrow, I know he’s a very good player and we can see him close up tomorrow.’
United began their Champions League campaign in style last week with an impressive 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes.
They face the tough prospect of Julian Nagelsmann’s side next, who are top of the Bundesliga after winning four of their opening five league games.
