Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is excited about the prospect of working with new Manchester United winger Amad Diallo and thinks he can be ‘comfortable’ in a number of positions.

Diallo, who will wear the No. 19 at his new club, finally completed a £36million move to Old Trafford in the January transfer window despite only making five first-team appearances for former club Atalanta.

Solskjaer admitted he will likely start off working with the Under-23s, alongside fellow young signing Facundo Pellistri, who is yet to make his debut despite arriving in the summer, although he suggested he could call upon the attacker if he proves his worth in training.

Asked about Diallo’s best position, Solskjaer admitted his versatility is part of the reason the club were interested in signing him.

‘I think he’s comfortable in many positions,’ Solskjaer told Manchester United’s official website.

‘Right wing is probably the position he’s played the most, with his left foot coming inside.

‘Then again, in the Champions League for Atalanta he played on the left – he cut inside and he went outside, so he can play different positions for us.

‘Let’s give him time to find his feet here in England and we’ll hopefully see him soon.’

Diallo is unlikely to feature against Watford in the FA Cup on Saturday evening.

Solskjaer’s men were semi-finalists last season and he is determined to guide them beyond that stage in 2021.

‘Yes, of course it does. It’s a special trophy to lift,’ said Solskjaer. ‘I’ve had that pleasure a few times and it’s hopefully one we can do again.

‘We’ve won it so many times. As a kid in Norway you always looked forward to the FA Cup final on TV – it was the last game of the season.

‘I’ve said it many times before, but when Norman Whiteside curled that ball in the far corner with his left foot [in 1985, to win the cup for United] – that is still a vivid memory that I’ve got of United, after playing with 10 men when Kevin Moran was sent off.’
