Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists the in-house fighting must stop as it is affecting ‘team spirit’.

Solskjaer claims United’s desire to win against Crystal Palace ‘boiled over into frustration’ after Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford were heard engaging in an X-rated exchange on the pitch.

As a result, Solskjaer has urged his players to control their emotions ahead of their clash with Premier League leaders Manchester City.

United drew a third straight game 0-0 and missed the chance to move further away from third-place Leicester and closer to league leaders Manchester City ahead of Sunday’s derby.

Their subsequent frustration came to a head during the second half when United captain Maguire expressed his anger at club and England team-mate Rashford for being caught offside while attempting to get on the end of a header in a promising move.

‘What do you want me to do?’ Rashford asked before a furious Maguire replied: ‘F****** get back onside!’

Rashford’s riposte then saw him appear to tell his club captain to ‘shut the f*** up, f****** k*******’. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has now seen his side go nearly five hours – some 285 minutes – without finding the net.

Speaking of the incident, Solskjaer told Sky Sports: ‘Sometimes it has boiled over into frustration when it hasn’t worked our way, we’ve got to stop that, the frustration on the pitch.

‘We want to win but don’t let it affect your desire to do well. Don’t let it affect your confidence or the team spirit.’

While Maguire claims his heated on-pitch row with Rashford is a good thing because it shows they are ‘passionate’ about the team.

Maguire told the Sun: ‘If we want to win titles and win trophies, we must have leaders.

‘You pick up these things as there is no crowd in the stadium.

‘But we are always shouting at each other in games. I have full respect for Marcus and he has full respect for myself. ‘He wants the best for the club and I want the best for the club.

‘It just shows we are going in the right direction. We are passionate. We are frustrated. We want to be winning football matches. We are passionate about the club and team spirit. We show passion.’
