Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has ‘demanded’ Manchester United sign Sporting midfielder Bruno Fernandes ahead of Manchester City, according to reports in Portugal.

The 24-year-old has been in sublime form for Sporting this season with 25 goals and 15 assists in 44 appearances.

Earlier this week, reports claimed that City were close to agreeing a deal with Sporting for Fernandes.

But according to A Bola, Solskjaer is intent on bringing Fernandes to Old Trafford and has made his wishes clear to United’s hierarchy.

The report also claims that Fernandes’ agent Miguel Pinho is ready to listen to United’s proposal before deciding whether the player will join Solskjaer’s side ahead of City.

Fernandes, who has also attracted interest from Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal, has a €100 million (£85m) release clause in his deal with Sporting.

United are in the market for at least one new central midfielder as they expected to lose Ander Herrera, while Juan Mata is also out of contract this summer.

City, meanwhile, are looking for a long-term successor to David Silva and reportedly see Fernandes as an ideal replacement.
