Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already spoken to Amad Diallo ahead of his looming move to Manchester United, telling the youngster he wants to start integrating him with the first team immediately.

The 18-year-old agreed a move to Old Trafford from Atalanta over the summer but was forced to remain in Italy until he was granted a work permit, with United now working hard to complete the deal this month.

Diallo has now received an Italian passport and flew to Rome on Sunday to complete the final paperwork he needs, including a visa, before heading to Manchester this week.

Atalanta had hoped to use the delay to convince United to allow Diallo to remain at the club on loan until the end of the season, but the Red Devils are keen for him to link up with the squad as soon as possible.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano on his Here We Go podcast, Diallo’s move to United is now imminent and the teenager is thrilled to be heading to Old Trafford – particularly after speaking to Solskjaer.

The Norwegian coach had a conversation with Diallo on the phone ahead of the transfer and made it clear he believes he can make an immediate impact, saying: ‘I want you here, right now!’

Atalanta have already resigned themselves to the fact that Diallo will not be at the club beyond January, even on loan, with manager Gian Piero Gasperini revealing on Tuesday that the pathway for the young winger to join United was almost clear.

‘The idea [to loan Diallo back] was due to the difficulty in getting his paperwork, but now that has been unlocked it is clear that he will go to Manchester. He had been training with us for years, so it would have been a good solution.’

United have agreed to pay a massive fee of £37million for the highly rated teenager and he is expected to begin training with the first team straight away – though will likely be integrated slowly, picking up minutes with the development team first.

Diallo has been teasing his impending move to United on social media, even changing his Twitter banner, and Solskjaer is excited to see him up close.

‘I hope very soon he will be with us. I’m very excited about bringing him in. I think he’s shown a few times his qualities,’ said the United boss last week. ‘Of course he has to learn to play in England, that’s a different level of football. We’ll give him time to develop and to express himself.’
