Lingard has been reinvigorated at West Ham since joining the club on loan until the end of the campaign in January.
The 28-year-old has scored eight goals and provided three assists in just nine Premier League games for the fourth-placed Hammers as they seek Champions League qualification.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (left) wants Jesse Lingard back at Manchester United next season
His incredible form at the London Stadium has seen him recalled to the England fold and is now firmly in the hunt for a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad this summer.
Lingard has one-year left on his contract at United and West Ham have hoped to make his loan switch a permanent one this summer.
However, speaking on Wednesday Solskjaer said he wanted the midfielder to be part of his plans next term.
‘Jesse has been brilliant since he left,’ he said ahead of the Red Devils’ Europa League quarter-final second leg against Granada.
‘We could have kept him because he had a part to play. Never once caused me a problem and he deserved a chance to play more football.
‘Of course we want him back. I hope he goes to the Euros.’
Lingard’s future at Old Trafford appeared to bleak having just featured three times for United this season with none of those appearances in the Premier League.
However, the red-hot midfielder now looks set to have a decision to make about whether or not staying at his boyhood club.
