Mourinho ‘tries to hijack Man United’s move for Reguilon’ and more rumours

2 min read

Jose Mourinho has attempted to hijack Manchester United’s move for Real Madrid defender Sergio Reguilon, according to reports.

United finally made their first signing of the window on Wednesday after completing a £40.1million move for Ajax playmaker Donny van de Beek.

The club aren’t done there, however, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is eyeing more fresh recruits to turn his promising side into Premier League title contenders.

Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho remains the priority after another fine season in Germany as United look to improve their attacking options, but Solskjaer also hasn’t ruled out strengthening his defence.

M.E.N. Sport reported earlier this week that United are monitoring left-back Reguilon due to uncertainty in their full-back positions.

The 23-year-old impressed on loan at Sevilla lasts season and United witnessed first-hand how good he is after he helped the La Liga side knock them out of the Europa League semi-finals on their way to winning the trophy.

Despite his talent, Reguilon remains behind Ferland Mendy and Marcelo in the pecking order at Madrid and could be allowed to leave the Bernabeu this summer.

United opted against signing a new left-back last year due to the emergence of Brandon Williams but the teenager struggled towards the end of the season when filling in for the injured Luke Shaw.

Diogo Dalot and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are United’s only other options at left-back so a move for Reguilon would make sense.

However, according to OkDario, via the Express, Tottenham are also interested in the Spaniard and it’s claimed that former United boss Mourinho has personally phoned him to try and convince him to move to North London instead.

Italian giants Juventus are also said to be interested but it’s reported that they would have to sell Alex Sandro before making a move.

Elsewhere in the chase to sign Reguilon, United have reportedly been offered the chance to sign him.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the Madrid academy graduate’s situation at the club, claiming Reguilon has been offered to United.

It’s understood that United will continue to monitor the player but they have not yet made an offer.
