Mourinho hits back at Man United manager Solskjaer over goalpost joke

2 min read

Jose Mourinho has aimed his own dig at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the Manchester United manager made a joke at his expense.

United earned their first points of the Premier League season over the weekend as they struck late on to defeat Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

Bruno Fernandes won the match for United in the tenth minute of added time with an expertly-dispatched penalty which was awarded after the full-time whistle had been blown.

United rode their luck at the Amex Stadium with Brighton having hit the woodwork five times during the match, and speaking after the win Solskjaer poked fun at Mourinho after the Tottenham manager complained about the size of the goalposts in their Europa League win in Macedonia on Thursday night.

“You have to be happy Jose isn’t here to measure the goalposts, it might have been a smaller goal,” Solskjaer joked to BT Sport after the game.

Mourinho was asked about the comments ahead of Tottenham’s match with Newcastle on Sunday afternoon, and he used the opportunity to hit back at the man who replaced him as United manager.

“I think Ole yesterday was so happy and surprised with what happened to his team that he had a joke,” Mourinho told Sky Sports.

“But I think for him the dimension of the goalposts are not important. For him what is important is the dimensions of the 18-yard box. He’d never accept to play with a 17-yard box, I think he would prefer a 22-yard box. For him it would be better.”

United are next in Premier League action when they host Tottenham at Old Trafford on Sunday 4 October.
