Monaco star Benoit Badiashile insists he has no regrets over turning down a move to Manchester United last summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made no secret of his desire to sign a centre-back partner for Harry Maguire and United had identified Badiashile, who has four caps for France’s U21s.
However, it wasn’t for a lack of trying, with Monaco ace Badiashile confirming that he rejected a £22million move to Old Trafford in favour of staying in France.
‘It was the right choice, first off is I have not enjoyed good seasons since I have been at Monaco,’ Badiashile told RMC.
‘We played to stay up and so now I am really experiencing the top of the table and I think that continuing with the club that formed me was the right decision and this is being proved by the season that we are having.’
Asked if he regrets turning down the chance to move to the Theatre of Dreams, the defender dismissed any suggestion.
‘No, not at all.’ said the 19-year-old.
United have conceded 32 times in 25 league appearances this term and their leaky defence undermined the side’s chances of mounting a title challenge.
Maguire has been an ever-present this term and the England international has mainly been paired with Victor Lindelof.
However, the Swede has had a poor campaign and while Solskjaer is fan of Eric Bailly, the Ivorian’s injury record means he cannot be counted on.
