Marcus Rashford identifies where Manchester United need to improve

Marcus Rashford has urged Manchester United to start games better and improve their overall performance level in the Premier League.

United have fallen behind in both their league games so far, going on to lose 3-1 at home to Crystal Palace and then rescuing a 3-2 win at Brighton.

Yet their performances have left plenty to be desired, with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitting his side did not merit all three points at the Amex Stadium. They salvaged the win through a Bruno Fernandes penalty with the final kick of the game, after Rashford had put them 2-1 up earlier on in the second half.

“We have to use these three points as motivation to improve and keep getting better,” Rashford told MUTV after the win. “We have to improve if we want to hit our targets for the season.

“We had a slow start in the last league game and it’s more important to pick up points. It’s more important that we lost the first league game, we had to win today.

“It doesn’t matter how we won, we got the three points and we’ll move forward and improve.”

Rashford lauded United’s spirit for fighting back to win, with Harry Maguire forcing Neal Maupay to handle the ball in the box and Fernandes scoring the spot-kick.

“We were definitely lucky to get the three points,” he added. “But even when they equalised we showed a lot of character and desire to keep pushing forward. We forced a corner out of nothing, a throw-in on the left-side.

“It was Harry’s determination to win the ball, he won the penalty for us and Bruno tucked it away.”
