Marcus Rashford put his team ahead of himself when he allowed Anthony Martial to score a penalty for Manchester United despite being on a hat-trick.
Then, when Martial was challenged in the box, United had a penalty to make it 4-0, with Rashford looking for his first hat-trick for the club. Rashford picked the ball up, placed it down on the spot, but it was Martial who took the kick.
Martial duly tucked it away, and Rashford would go on to wrap up his hat-trick in stoppage time, and he explained what the pair spoke about in his post-match interview.
“A little bit, a little bit,” he told BT Sport when asked if there was a discussion over who would step up. “I feel confident with Anthony taking them as well. So no problem.”
Rashford’s first goal against Leipzig was initially disallowed for offside, but Rashford was given the goal after a VAR review clearly showed he was inside his own half when Bruno Fernandes played him through on goal.
“I thought I was in my own half so I was a bit confused when the flag went up,” Rashford explained. “All we can do is wait and see when the ball is in the net. We have to work with VAR now, it’s part of our game. The quicker we get used to it, the better.”
Rashford reserved praise for Mason Greenwood, who opened the scoring in the first half before the second-half substitutes killed the game.
“It’s not surprising. He’s a top player,” Rashford said of Greenwood. “He needs to keep his head down and keep working hard. He will be an unbelievable player for us.”
