Manchester United vs Liverpool possible fixture dates after postponement

2 min read

Manchester United and Liverpool will need to find an alternative date for their Premier League clash at Old Trafford, after a day of mass protest on Sunday.

Both teams and the Premier League sent out statements justifying the decision to postpone the game, set for 4.30pm on Sunday afternoon, due to safety concerns.

The clubs and the league condemned any actions of illegality during what was largely a peaceful protest — attended by approximately 10,000 protesting against United’s Glazer owners

Many supporters took to the stadium to protest at United’s Glazer owners and the running of the club, particularly in the wake of the recent European Super League proposals, which were quickly binned after a major fan backlash.

But on the footballing side of things, when can the fixture be rearranged for?

There is no midweek slot this coming week, despite the fact Liverpool have no fixture, as United are travelling to Rome for the second leg of their Europa League semi-final tie against Roma.

United and Liverpool then both have Premier League games, against Aston Villa and Southampton respectively, on the weekend of May 8th and 9th.

United then have a midweek Premier League game against Leicester on May 12, while Liverpool are busy on the weekend of May 15 and 16th, playing West Brom away in the league.

The following midweek, United and Liverpool are both due to be in action, against Fulham and Burnley respectively, while they both have games on Sunday May 23rd — the final game of the league season.

There is currently no available date for the game to go ahead, meaning a scheduling nightmare for the Premier League, whose preference is always for all clubs to play their last game of the season concurrently on the agreed date — this year being May 23rd.
