Manchester United to face Everton in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals

2 min read

Manchester United will face Everton in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

While an exact date and kick-off time for the match has not yet been set, it will be played in the week commencing December 21 and held at Goodison Park.

After defeating Championship outfit Luton Town upon their entry into the competition, United defeated Brighton 3-0 on Wednesday to advance to the final eight in a match that didn’t have nearly as much drama as their thrilling Premier League clash just five days prior.

Scott McTominay put Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side ahead when he nodded in Juan Mata’s excellent delivery on the edge of half-time. The Spaniard got in on the act himself with a fine finish in the second half as part of a Man of the Match performance and Paul Pogba sealed the result late on with a deflected free-kick.

Everton have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season and currently sit at joint top of the Premier League table with a 100 per cent record.

The Toffees’ run in the cup has also been impressive, with heavy victories over Salford City, Fleetwood and West Ham securing their place in the last eight.

United will be aiming to once again reach the semi-finals of the tournament but this time make the Wembley final after they were knocked out in the semi-finals last season by Manchester City over two legs.

The competition presents Solskjaer with the chance to win his first piece of silverware as United boss, after the club also lost semi-finals in the FA Cup and Europa League in the previous campaign. United last won the League Cup in 2017 when they defeated Southampton 3-2 in the final.

The full quarter-final draw is as follows:

  • Stoke vs Tottenham
  • Brentford vs Newcastle
  • Arsenal vs Manchester City
  • Everton vs Manchester United
