Manchester United have told AC Milan that they are not prepared to sell Diogo Dalot, according to reports.

The 21-year-old has joined the Serie A club on loan for the remainder of the season and has already impressed with a goal and an assist in the 3-0 win over Sparta Prague in the Europa League.

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli has welcomed Dalot’s versatility in his squad with the Portuguese defender able to play on both flanks.

And earlier this month, reports in Italy claimed that AC Milan have already considered signing Dalot on a permanent deal.

But according to ESPN, United have now informed the Italian side that they are planning to keep Dalot.

The report claims that Dalot is ‘highly regarded’ by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, while United are ‘hopeful’ that the Portuguese can become a first-team regular.

Dalot’s current contract expires in 2023, while AC Milan have no option to sign the defender next summer and must negotiate with United if they want to extend his loan or arrange a permanent transfer.

Speaking after making his AC Milan debut last month, Dalot praised the positive impact Pioli has had on him at San Siro.

‘Pioli keeps us all hungry,’ the Portuguese told Sky Sport Italia.

‘We are motivated to play. He gives everyone the opportunity to demonstrate what we can do, and this is fantastic.’
