The Italian referee was advised by VAR to go to the pitchside monitor to review the incident, but inexplicably opted to brandish a yellow card for the 27-year-old.
‘I didn’t think you were allowed to do that in this day and age,’ Chris Sutton said omn BBC Radio Five Live.
‘He’s got away with one there, Fred, he really has. I thought any sort of gesture like that would be a red, I’m baffled with that.
