Manchester United defender Alex Telles is in line to start against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday after the Brazilian returned to first-team training.

The left-back has started just once for the club since his £14million arrival from Porto and he missed the fortnight before the international break after contracting coronavirus.

Telles was hoping to build up his fitness on international duty with Brazil but he bizarrely tested positive for the virus once again, raising fears that he could have to self-isolate for another two weeks.

However, Telles has since tested negative – meaning the test may have just detected old strains of the virus that are still present in the Brazilian.

Telles missed four matches as a result of his positive test before the break and United are particularly desperate for him to return given Luke Shaw is less than midway through a six-week absence with a hamstring strain.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was facing the prospect of bringing Marcos Rojo in from the cold for his first appearance of the season against the Baggies but Telles was spotted in training today, meaning he has been cleared to play on Saturday.

Telles will be hoping to get United back on track as the Norwegian’s side look to put a dismal start to the season behind them.

A 3-1 win before the break against Everton relieved the immediate pressure on Solskjaer’s position but United remain in the bottom half.
