Cristiano Ronaldo is not a Manchester United target for the upcoming transfer window.
United have already established their list of primary targets, which includes Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, and would be extremely reluctant to turn to the veteran Juventus forward. He’s not been a target for the club in recent years.
Ronaldo has one year remaining on his deal in Turin, and given his age and contract situation, could be available on the cheap this year.
It’s been claimed he and Juve both want to part ways and an astonishing return to United — the club Ronaldo left in 2009 to join Real Madrid — has been mooted in some media reports.
Ronaldo has also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain and with a move to the MLS in America, though his agent Jorge Mendes has ruled out a return to the Portuguese’s boyhood club, Sporting Lisbon.
“Portugal is not part of his career plans for now,” said the super agent.
It’s understood United want to press on with negotiations for their key targets this summer, with the right-wing and centre-back positions both priorities for Solskjaer.
The Norwegian made no secret of his desire to see United strengthen their first team with two or three elite stars, ready for a title push next season. They finished in second, 12 points off champions Man City in the 2020/21 campaign.
He said: “We are here now, we need to do better, we need to work better, work harder, cleverer. But as I said two or three players to strengthen the starting XI and the squad all together is important for us to go even further.
“Because I’m sure our contenders or challengers will also want to improve and we want to improve as much as we can.”
