Manchester United are set to make their first official offer for Bruno Fernandes through his agent Miguel Pinho, reports say.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with Fernandes this summer, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer thought to be a big fan of the playmaker.
Liverpool and Tottenham too are credited with an interest in the transfer, but United are poised to lodge their first formal bid.
Portuguese outlet A Bola claim Pinho will present Sporting Lisbon with United’s offer on Tuesday after talks with the Red Devils.
United are on the hunt for a new midfielder this summer and Solskjaer wants to sign two midfielders, even if Paul Pogba doesn’t leave Old Trafford.
Pogba has already said he wants to leave United, but neither Juventus and Real Madrid have met his astronomical £180million asking price.
Sporting are looking for a transfer fee of around £70m for Fernandes, who scored 32 goals in all competitions last season.
Fernandes enhanced his reputation further this month when he impressed against Liverpool in his side’s pre-season clash with the Reds, scoring a goal and setting up Sporting’s second.
Tottenham are reportedly still in the race to sign Fernandes, but United fans believe the 24-year-old is on his way to Old Trafford after his latest appearance for Sporting.
Fernandes left the pitch in tears after Sporting’s 2-1 defeat to Valencia amid reports it could be his final game for the club.
Sporting, however, play bitter rivals Benfica on Sunday in the Portuguese Super Cup and are keen to keep hold of Fernandes for that game.
