Manchester United are likely to recall captain Harry Maguire to their side to face Chelsea on Saturday evening.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to pick between Maguire, Victor Lindelof and the in-form Axel Tuanzebe when selecting his side to face Frank Lampard’s outfit. United could well select a three-man central defence again, as they did against Paris Saint-Germain in midweek when Tuanzebe gave an inspired performance.
Though it could well be the 22-year-old who makes way for Maguire, with the fit-again attacking duo of Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood likely to be on the bench.
Donny van de Beek could be in line for his full Premier League debut, though he will have to wrestle a first team place off either Fred or Scott McTominay, with Paul Pogba in the mix too.
Solskjaer used his Friday morning press conference to provide updates on Maguire, Cavani and Greenwood. The Norwegian will hope that Eric Bailly remains his only injury concern going into the Chelsea game at Old Trafford.
“I hope and expect all three of them to be available for selection,” Solskjaer said. “Of course, we’ve got a training session this morning but they’ve all got a chance, all of them.
“There are different reasons: Edinson wants to tick all the boxes that he’s gone through in his programme to be ready and make an impact. His last preparation is going to be today and then I will have a discussion. Yesterday seemed positive with Mason and Harry.”
David de Gea, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford are all certainties to start, with Alex Telles in contention to make his first league appearance for United. The Brazilian wing-back, signed from Porto on deadline day, impressed on debut in the 2-1 win over PSG.
Predicted United XI: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw, Telles; Fred, McTominay, Pogba; Fernandes, Rashford.
