Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford praised Kylian Mbappe after the Frenchman’s sensational performance against Barcelona on Tuesday.
The Frenchman, starting on the left flank for Paris Saint-Germain, hit a hat-trick in a 4-1 win, and was widely praised for his display. Rashford, who has scored decisive goals in two games against PSG in recent years, responded to the display on Twitter.
Retweeting a BT Sport video of Mbappe’s third goal, Rashford said: “What a performance,” adding the fire emoji.
Gary Lineker echoed Rashford’s sentiments, tweeting out: “A hattrick from @KMbappe. We may be witnessing the changing of the guard.”
PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino, who arrived in Paris last month, praised his star performer in his post-match interview.
“It is clear that he is a great footballer, today he has shown it with his hat-trick,” Pochettino said. The great players are creating a path and these three goals put him in the media spotlight. We had no doubts and we are happy for him.”
Mbappe’s current contract at PSG is due to expire in 2021 and Real Madrid are the favourites to sign him.
On the rumours that Mbappe could leave PSG, Pochettino added: “It’s normal, there are going to be rumours [about him leaving]. What is clear is that he is happy in Paris and we all want to find the best way.”
