Manchester United have offered a new £350,000-a-week contract to David De Gea, according to reports.

The Spain international’s current deal is set to expire at the end of next season which means United run the risk of losing their first-choice goalkeeper on a free transfer next summer.

United had meet unwilling to meet De Gea’s wage demands as the 28-year-old had demanded parity with the team’s top earner Alexis Sanchez, who earns £400,000 a week before bonuses.

But according to The Times, United have taken a major step forward by improving their contract offer to De Gea, who currently earns £200,000 a week.

The proposed five-year deal would make De Gea the highest-paid goalkeeper in the world and the report claims that the Spaniard’s camp will continue talks with United.

De Gea has attracted strong interest from Paris Saint-Germain but United are not entertaining the idea of selling him this summer.

The Times also report that De Gea wants to remain at United and is ‘grateful’ for the support he received from the club after his mistakes towards the end of last season.

Should United fail to reach an agreement with De Gea, he would be free to negotiate a move with teams outside of the Premier League as from January.
