Sancho staying put – Dortmund head of football

Borussia Dortmund head of football Sebastian Kehl has insisted that Jadon Sancho will stay with the Bundesliga club for the 2020/21 season.

The England winger remains Manchester United’s top transfer target, although the clubs remain apart in their valuation of the player.

And while Kehl reaffirmed Dortmund’s belief that Sancho will stay, he admitted the club are monitoring the market for a replacement in case a deal is struck during the final three weeks of the transfer market.

“Jadon Sancho will play at Borussia Dortmund this season,” Kehl told ARD . “Otherwise, of course, we are watching the market but we are very well positioned.”

Dortmund manager says the same thing

Lucien Favre also said he expects Sancho to remain with Dortmund.

Dortmund started their German Cup campaign against Duisberg on Monday night and, in an interview with the Swiss news agency SDS ahead of the game, Favre was asked: “Another gifted person will and will continue to work with you: Jadon Sancho is not (yet) moving to the Premier League. Have you breathed a sigh of relief?”

Favre replied:  “We need him no question about it. Everyone was happy that he stayed. We don’t need to talk long about his qualities – they are enormous. He scores and prepares many goals, can often make all the difference.

“But there are a few details that Sancho needs to improve. That’s normal for a 20-year-old.”

Solskjaer’s message for academy players

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was asked whether he expects more United youngsters to follow the likes of Greenwood and Williams and forge themselves a spot in the first team squad in the coming season.

“I would hope so and think so,” he said. “That should always be part of being a Manchester United academy player, knowing the pathway is there.

“We, as coaching staff and as a club, will always give good, young players a chance if they go through the ranks, when you’re getting ready to get the chance to have a feel of the first team as well.

“Hopefully, some really improve over the course of the season and get in and around the first team.”
