Former coach Meulensteen names three major transfer priorities

Rene Meulensteen has had his say on where Manchester United need to strengthen this summer.

The Dutchman believes the club need to prioritise a new goalkeeper, a centre-half and an out-and-out centre-forward ahead of top target Jadon Sancho.

“They first need to solve and get clarity about the goalkeeping position because now there’s a debate about [David] De Gea and the rumours with Schmeichel, but also Henderson is there,” said Meulensteen in an interview with talkSPORT.

“So that needs to be solved to make sure that’s clear. People are on De Gea’s back, but he’s still a very good goalkeeper; he’s had a few blips this season, he needs to sort that out.

“They also need someone next to Harry Maguire to strengthen that [defence]. They’re bringing Jadon Sancho in, but more than anything, I would have gone for a more prolific out-and-out striker, somebody like Harry Kane.”

Traore explains how Pogba helps United youngsters

Manchester United youngster Aliou Traore has explained how Paul Pogba helps the club’s French youngsters.

“I talk to him a bit, especially when I go up to training with the professionals (first team),” Traore told French outlet RMC Sport . “He’s a bit like on social networks, a bit crazy! He takes care of the French. There is Hannibal [Mejbri] and Noam [Emeran] with me.”

Gossip: Gueye linked with United

Former Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye has been tipped to leave Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain after just one season in the French capital.

French outlet Le10Sport report that United are set to battle Wolves for the 29-year-old’s signature.

The combative defensive midfielder has drawn praise for his performances in France, so a departure would be something of a shock, but the new report states he could be on his way as part of sporting director Leonardo’s plan to restructure PSG’s midfield.

MEN Sport, however, understands that Gueye isn’t currently one of United’s targets. Gueye turns 31 next month and United’s strategy under Solskjaer has generally been to recruit younger players.
