Here are your Manchester United morning headlines for Wednesday, 21 October.

United boss reveals midfielder played with ‘one eye’ against PSG

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed Scott McTominay played the first half of Manchester United’s Champions League away win over Paris Saint-Germain with “one eye” after losing a contact lens.

The Scotland international started alongside Fred as United’s midfield axis at the Parc des Princes and impressed, maintaining his discipline despite picking up a first-half booking.

And the United boss revealed afterwards that McTominay’s vision had been impaired.

“They’re in good form now,” Solskjaer said . “They’re good players and played really well against Newcastle, they laid the foundation for the win in that game and laid the foundation for today as well.

“Scotty played the first-half with one eye as well, that was the most impressive thing, because he lost his contact lens. That was impressive.”

Marcus Rashford heaps praise on United boss for tactical masterclass

United match-winner Marcus Rashford highlighted the role Solskjaer played in guiding his team to an impressive away win against PSG.

The Norwegian made a number of bold tactical decisions, including playing Fred and McTominay ahead of Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek as well as starting Luke Shaw as a left-sided centre back, and pulled off a masterclass in the French capital.

“It is definitely a nice feeling,” Rashford told MUTV after netting a late winner. “I thought we did well in stages, some of the decision making in the first-half and even in the second-half was a little bit poor in the final third. That is one thing we can definitely improve on.

“But I think the manager got it spot-on today. The system allowed us to express ourselves going forward and also trying to be tight defensively which I think we did as well as we could have. It was a big win but also it is the perfect position to be in because we’ve got a lot to build on and improve on as well.”

David De Gea hails ‘unbelievable’ performance of young United defender

David de Gea described the performance of Axel Tuenzuebe as “unbelievable” as the young defender helped United to three points in their Champions League season opener.

Tuenzuebe was handed his first start of the season against the Ligue 1 champions following injuries to Eric Bailly and Harry Maguire, with the 22-year-old playing in a back three alongside Shaw and Victor Lindelof.

The defender, who last featured for United in December 2019, turned in a solid performance, helping to quell one of the most potent attacks in European football.

“He has been unbelievable today,” De Gea told MUTV , highlighting Tuenzuebe’s performance. “He played against two of the best players in the world in Neymar and Mbappe so he did really, really well. I am really happy for him.

“He has been in difficult moments with the injuries but now he has shown today that he is capable of playing in big games.”
