Manchester United injury list and return dates ahead of Everton

3 min read

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has the luxury of an almost fully-fit squad to choose from ahead of Saturday’s game against Everton.

Manchester United’s 9-0 win over Southampton in midweek allowed Solskjaer to withdraw anyone there were fitness concerns over, meaning the Reds are confident that these players will be fit to feature on Saturday.

Here is United’s injury list and expected return dates in full.

Edinson Cavani

The forward was withdrawn at half-time in United’s rout of Southampton due to being on the receiving end of a heavy tackle on his ankle.

Solskjaer is optimistic that the Uruguayan will be able to face the Toffees, revealing that he substituted Cavani as a precautionary measure.

What Solskjaer said: He was good, but he got a bad tackle on his ankle so there was no point taking any risks. Hopefully it doesn’t swell up too much.”

Luke Shaw

Similarly, Shaw was also replaced at half-time against Southampton.

This was a precautionary measure, with Solskjaer explaining that he did not want to take a risk on the left-back after his good recent form.

Expected return date: February 6 vs Everton

What Solskjaer said: “With Luke, the intensity, the sprint, and high-speed running, we felt the spaces that appeared for him, if he played in the second-half the same way he played in the first-half you always run a risk.”

Phil Jones

Jones has been absent for more than a year due to a knee injury.

The defender is still in the recovery stages after having an operation on the injury and is out indefinitely.

Manchester United smashed nine goals past Southampton on Tuesday night as they bounced back from disappointing results against Sheffield United and Arsenal in emphatic fashion.

The game was effectively over as a contest inside the first two minutes as Southampton were reduced to 10 men, but United still had to find the goals and they did exactly that, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial (two), Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes and Daniel James all getting on the scoresheet.
